Fire officials said the woman was cooking in her home at 1736 SW 24th Court just after 10 a.m. when the pressure cooker fell to the floor.

"Right now, we don't know exactly what happened, but from what we are told, she was cooking, and for some unknown reason, the pressure cooker fell," said Lt. Ignatius Carroll, of Miami Fire Rescue. "The impact caused it to explode. Maybe pieces from the pressure cooker severed her leg completely."

The woman's leg was severed below the knee, officials said.

Bless her heart! That's terrible! I have a weak spot for little old ladies, part of me is wishing I could cook for her. At her age someone should be helping her, but on the other hand, little old southern ladies can be adamant about not accepting any help.
It took years before I would even consider a pressure cooker, my Mom got burned by one and she hated them. I'm really really careful with it.

I understand.
I just bought a new pressure cooker, and replaced old faithful, LOL
It's like any tool, you play by the it's rules, or pay the consequences.
Only problem I had was when I let the old one run dry, (trying to fix a computer
problem in another room and blew the safety plug.)
Scared hell out of us all, no casualties, TG
