What are grocery store sales items like in your area(prices)
I just went through our weekly flyers and I can tell you they are horrible...
A bag of cookies on sale now is 3.00, thier regular price 4.79 can you believe that...
I found in most of the flyers that they are advertising their no name brands and those are not even on sale 2-3 pages of look what we got..but the quality of those products are terrible...in my town we only have 2 grocery stores...
In Ontario it is getting bad, when I went yesterday to get a few items from the grocery, I noticed alot of the seniors with very little in thier shopping carts, looking at things at the prices and then putting them back on the shelves...I live in a retirement town were at least 50% of the people are on a fixed income..

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

Re: What are grocery store sales items like in your area(prices)
Our sales are nothing to stock up on. We mostly shop at the warehouse clubs, Sam's. Costco. amd BJ's, sometimes they have good clearance. At Costco if there's an asterisk in the upper right corner of the price sign, it's clearance, at Sam's if there's a "c" in the upper right corner it's clearance, I look for those more than at the prices, initially. Even clearance isn't alway a bargain, though. Target keeps clearance on end caps facing the walls, so I always "walk the perimeter" there, lately there hasn't been much. Kroger has had some good sales, I recently loaded up on frozen breaded chicken patties ($1 a pack, four to a pack, great with ragu and cheese over them for "chicken parmigiana-cheddar, LOL!) and milk ($1.88 a gallon!) and tuna in oil, fifty cents a can, which is what I think the price ought to be for 5 oz., dang it! I refuse to consider that a sale! Those are the best sales I've found, lately. Canned veggies are never on sale, canned meats are never on sale, the stuff I'm stocking up on is never on sale. But I'm thankful for the stuff we did get! I guess my trouble is I don't really consider it a sale if it just brings the price down slightly out of the stratosphere. I don't get excited unless i's actually cheap, and the milk and chicken are the only things I've gotten excited about lately.

Re: What are grocery store sales items like in your area(prices)
Prices keep going up and up, it seems they remark products on the shelves daily. There hasn't been a day that I have walked into the grocery store or drug store where they are replacing the price tags on the shelves. Clearance and mark downs seem to be non-existant.
This last week I was able to make the best of a sale on store had and put it towards buying canned vegetables, so now at least have 2 cases of corn, creamed corn, peas and green beans stocked up for $25 total, roughly 25 cents per can, never going to see that sale again.
When I went to Aldi's to take advantage of the sale on strawberries and pineapple they were cleared out, the store was crowded with senior citizens and most only had a few things in their carts. None of the stores in my area seem to keep a ample supple of stock on any one item, I have now asked for more rain checks then I have ever before, time consuming but worth getting something at a sale price later on.
Cheap Charmin Basic Toilet Tissue was on sale last week with coupon for $4/12 roll pack, regular price now is $7.99, none to be found, this week it was in stock so used the rain check and coupons I had and bought 2 for $3 each, so less then the regular price on 2.
I may be made fun of in grocery store and drug stores with my coupons but it is the only way I can afford shopping and now am scared even that isn't going to be of much help soon.
I just added a 25 pound bag of pearlized barley to my bulk food order of wheat, it cost $20.95, a lot cheaper then if I buy it buy the 1 pound bags at the grocery store, where it was $2.19, the last time I checked. we need to keep our eyes open for sales and clearances and if we see any let others know and if we notice a jump in price of something to let others know also.

Re: What are grocery store sales items like in your area(prices)
I actually only shop at Kroger, and they have been jerking the prices around for months.
First they started out for example evaporated milk, Kroger brand a year ago was 99 cents
Then last summer, after after putting in place new low prices they had it at 84 cents, their "everyday" new price.
That lasted until mid winter, when they quietly raised the price to $1.19 a can. Then they jerked it back and forth thru the holiday seasons. now their every day price is 1.19
In the last 2 months they have dropped all pretense of discounts on deli meat and cheese, every thing is
now full price all the time.
Near their service seafood is a freezer that has some southern cornmeal breaded catfish fillets in a 1 and 1/2 pound bag.
The "regular" price which I would never pay, is 8.99. then after they couldn't sell it at that price alternating between 7.99 and 6.74. I buy at 6.74 and no higher, as though the fish is excellent, I won't pay 3 dollars per pound for breading. They have eliminated all discounts on fresh vegetables, and there is one fact that I will point out cause I never paid close enough before.
Carrots in cello bags are very high in price everyday, but loose carrots are only 49 cents a pound, much less than bagged or "baby" carrots

Baby carrots here are 99 cents on sale for one pound bag. Regular price is $1.99. It is so expensive here also to shop. Unfortunately here we only have one grocery store. Which means no competition. The next closest grocery store is an hour and a half away. So not a trip I would make that often.

Re: What are grocery store sales items like in your area(prices)
I went to publix for a change, they're still higher than kroger on most things. rice a roni was $1.39 a box, it's $1.02 at target, hamburger helper was the same price as everywhere else, $1.59. Canned veggies were the same as target, .69. pasta roni was $1.39, it's $1.12 at target. There aren't as many varieties of store brands, at publix or target. We're going to kroger tomorrow and costco and sam's. Can't afford BJ's, we'll be out of money before then!

Re: What are grocery store sales items like in your area(prices)
I did ok on a few items at the grocery store today only because they had posted a few good coupons on facebook. 6.8oz can of olives was 1 cent with coupon and you were able to print 2 coupons 50 cents for 8oz package of shredded cheese 50 cents for 16oz jar of salsa $2 off 1 1/2 pound package of ground beef, your choice of fat% hot dog and hamburger buns were 2/$1 with coupon
Otherwise everything else seemed way to hight to buy, all we bought meat wise was the ground beef.
Large Eggs are $1.46 dozen, down from the other week of $1.99, surprise Here is something I was amazed when i saw the price, a dozen bagels were $7.49, Yikes!!
