Post Water
Althou I am surronded by lots of lakes up here..clean fresh and awesome to fish on...

I still lack an adequate amount of water prepped...I find I don't have the extra room to store it since we have sized down...

I should get some set aside for SHTF ..

I found out the our water system up here is gravity fed, not sure if it would still run if everything went down...it does not require power for it to operate...I found this out when we were without power on Sunday and when the power was down for scheduled maintenance we still had water

I do have chlorine for purifying water and I have a doulton ceramic water filter.....

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

Post Re: Water
Having access to water and the ability to make it usable or drinkable is such a big deal and it's the one area many people have the most difficulty with because it's hard to store 'enough' and people use a lot more than they realize.

kelee, do you have room anywhere to keep a plastic 55 gallon drum fitted with a barrel pump? That is what we use at the cabin and it works pretty good.

I have 4 drums(I don't think they are 55 gallon they are smaller)..they would hold water..right now they are filled with 2 litre pop bottles that are filled with rice, barley and soup mix...

Winter is almost upon us and we will soon have snow abound..so I will have a patio filled with snow to use if I have to....

Post Re: Water
We bought a katadyn , it's good for something like 69,000 gallons until the filter needs changing.
I fill all empty bottles and jars with water. When our pipes were leaking and our water was out we washed our hands with water from spaghetti jars, when the pipe was fixed and the water back on I re-washed and refilled them.

kelee snow doesn't have the water content you would think. You can melt 3 gal of snow and end up with maybe a pint - a quart of water (depends on how wet/heavy the snow is.) And gravity feed is a good thing as it does not require any equipment to pump. I would double check to make sure it is indeed gravity feed. If the system has pressure it may be that it will only give water until the pressure tank gets emptied. If the water comes from an elevated source (higher than you in elevation) it could be genuinely gravity fed, but if you are tied into a system supporting multiple homes i'd almost bet chances are good it has pressure pumps somewhere along the line. Just something to double check. It would be a shame to operate under the impression that the supply is unlimited only to find after a few days that it is not unlimited. Just a thought.....

kele you can make a water pruification system by taking a barrel or a bucket , punching holes in the bottom. Line the bottom with cheese cloth and then put in alternating layers of sand and crushed charcoal..

I have the Berkey, Imperial I think! I have not set it up yet but I will be able to use the river water less than a block from where I live! I have the coffee filters, the sand, the small stones, the blue jean material, and the charcoal ready to go! I have no room for water as I live in a really small place. If I had to I have access to the water tank in this building of 300!

We have 24 cases of bottled water stored and I don't think that's enough.

We have 50 2 liter bottles out in the garage for the chickens and then 3500 gallons in the pool.

It don't rain here much and the water table is at about 60 feet.

I do know of a spring about a mile from my house and it it rare to have springs here in the Mojave desert.

Filter, I don't have one but I can sure make one in a hurry if I need too.
