Re: Tue Feb 16th gathering- Back to the Basics
I'd like to thank all those who participated in Tuesday evenings get together... especially that speed typist - HerbalPagan! Once we kick started her she was off to the races with some of the most awesome down to earth observations and suggestions. For those who couldn't squeeze into the time slot between questions and HP's answers we ought to do this again soon! I suspect that there are still alot of folks who feel intimidated by the prospect of needing to either defend their property without the hope of the "authorities" coming running, or having to bug out to some unknown place leaving there home and belongings behind.
The mental preparedness required to do either of these (or possibly both) requires active game playing and it seems that HerbalPagan has organized and performed these exercises along with her "team". I think it's time that all of us face up to the reality that at least one of the above scenarios is not merely likely but virtually unavoidable. In an effort to help prepare those who are still in some sense of denial regarding the outcome of doing nothing, may I suggest reading a short fiction based upon the resulting social breakdown after an EMP attack... Lights Out
http://www.survivalmonkey.com/Lights%20Out.htm There are many others depicting social disorder resulting from a variety of circumstances but this one struck a chord with me because of the well defined digression from "normal" to "Mad Max" along with very typical reactions by most folks based upon their naivety.
Then we can ask one another what we've done over the past week to improve the survivability of our family when the food stamps stop and "day-to-day" is a whole new paradigm. It should promote active participation and result in a wide variety of ideas.
Just my two cents worth... and ya' know how much that'll buy ya'.
