Post Things I've discovered
I read on another board about someone dehydrating fresh spinach and then crumbling it to a powder for easy storage. I bought three one pound tubs of fresh spinach at Sam's and I've been dehydrating it, it doesn't take long, and once it's done it's easy to powder, I just put it in the ziploc and crush it.
Three pounds of spinach are in one small ziploc bag!
I can't eat canned or frozen spinach, it's just nasty, but the fresh spinach, dehydrated, has no nasty smell or sliminess.
Also, if you buy those jars of nacho cheese dip (we like the white, monterey jack, kind) and heat it and throw in a little spinach powder it makes a great dip!
I've dehydrated a lot of spinach, broccoli, corn, and celery the last few weeks. I'm really impressed with how much less space it takes up, and how well it re-hydrates.
We've also been making a lot of jerky, everyone likes the homemade much better. DH must, he got me a jerky cannon for Christmas!

Good deal! I'll bet it takes up a lot less storage space too.

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

LOVE Spinach.

I did a whole bag of Sweet Onions the other day and it all fits in a much smaller container. They are a little harder to powder. I use a Mortar & Pestle or throw them in something electric if you're lazy. They crumble easily by hand but not to powder.

I'm getting ready to do some beef tomorrow. Yes, it is really amazing how much water is in stuff. Just think what we'd look like after dehydrating; ah yes, I'd be able to fit in those clothes again!

Thing is none of the dried stuff lasts around here. It gets used all the time.

If we get a garden going next year there will be loads of canning and drying. Seems that gardens just are not growing probably because of all the CRAP THEY are spraying in the upper atmosphere. Then there's the NEW Food Safety Bill that got passed and will limit our personal food production in the name of making us safer and allowing the BIG CORPORATIONS to to kill us off with toxic GMO's or whatever.

We're quitting CITY water because of all the CRAP THEY put in it. Then THEY want to put more stuff in the water like tranquilizers & cholesterol medicine.

Sorry, ranting...
