Reno Air Show tragedy: Plane crashes into grandstand, injures 54, kills at least two spectators



At least 54 people were injured - and two confirmed killed - when a World War II-era fighter plane piloted by a veteran Hollywood stuntman smacked into the grandstand at a Nevada airshow yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses described a ghastly tableau stretching across the landing strip at Reno-Stead Airport following the crash, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

"It's just like a massacre. It's like a bomb went off," Dr. Gerald Lent told the newspaper following the mayhem that marred the 48th annual Reno National Championship Air Races.

"There are people lying all over the runway. One guy was cut in half. There's blood everywhere. There's arms and legs. One guy just said, 'Hey, there's another foot over here.'"
