Post What are you reading right now? Re: Homesteading
I bought Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living several months ago & refer to it often. I also recently (finally) broke down & ordered John Seymour's Self Sufficient Life & How to Live It. I kept checking the latter out from the library & couldn't find it for a decent price, so I caved & bought the updated v. for about $21-22 shipped. It's a good investment for us, though. This past week I rec'd a book I won from a blog. It's Ed Smith's The Vegetable Gardener's Bible. Nifty book IMHO. When I ordered Seymour's book, I also ordered the first 4 Firefox books & have been dabbling in those. I have the first 6 on disk, so I need to dig those out as well. Last but not least, I've been skimming the Where There Is No Doctor/Dentist books.

Soon, I won't have much time to read, as I'll be gardening a BUNCH, so I'm trying to read as much as I can now.

What's on your reading table right now?

So much is coming togther out there..and my most important prep will be my Spiritual awareness

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

"Amerika", a novel based on a TV movie from 1987, about the socialist takeover of America following an EMP incident which wipes out all electronics in the country.
And an online book, "The Gray 90s" .

I've been rereading Backyard Market Gardening and browsing a couple older Rodale books. I'm looking for a good book on herbal remedies to read next.

I do much of my practical reading on line. However, I have been stocking up on practical cookbooks using long term storage ingredients, using dutch ovens and so on. I've been haunting the Backwoods Home magazine site and reading up on what I can there. Now I am finding a mad desire for Jackie Clays cookbooks! lol
I got the FoxFire books last year, except for book 1, I read them years ago, and found them to hold a wealth of information.

I got the latest Backwoods Home & Mother Earth News mags a couple weeks ago & am finally able to dig into them. Great article in MEN about pest control with absolutely NO chemicals ("natural" or otherwise). It's about planting for the beneficial bugs.

Gardens Alive! actually sells the beneficial insects mentioned in those articles. I am loathe to "import" and kind of insect, good intentions or not. But, PLANTING to attractthem naturally is a wonderful plan!

I will bite and play devils advocate, (of sorts)
Let's not be to hard on Gardens Alive as they are based here in my hometown, and employs a lot of people
here in the county. They also are one of the highest quality gardening supply houses in America.

I for one would be happy to import honey bees to my area, if I could attend to them.

I want to work on making a bughouse, actually. As soon as my million & four other things are caught up. I see 2013 before a bughouse comes along, LOL

PS- I "imported" redworms before I realised they were actually in the soil here :D
