Post Dishcloths
How many of you actually knit and use your knitted cotton dishcloths? I'm so tired of buying dishcloths that desintegrate after a few months or lose all of their color when thrown in the washer with bleach to remove coffee, food or tea stains. I read on a previous post that a fellow knitter doesn't use the dishcloths she knitted because they get dirty. I'm assuming that she meant stained and unable to be bleached.

I guess what promted this question is that my Mom fell in love with an oil and vinegar bottle that I etched, painted and converted into a dishwashing liquid bottle that is also decorative as it sits near my kitchen sink. I made her one for Mothers Day and thought it would be a very nice to make her some really nice and personalized dishcloths to go along with it. I decided to make them all in white so that they can in fact be bleached when they get stained. I'm doing mostly the embossed looking ones with all of her loves such as one with roses, one with a coffee pot, one with a sewing machine and one with a cat (which I haven't found a really good one yet) and last but most importantly one that says My Mom, My Friend.

I'm using the Peaches & Cream 100% cotton yarn. I want her to use them and smile every time she uses one. She's a very dainty southern lady but even I know that they beautiful lacey ones would not be sturdy and strong enough for daily use so I stuck with a solid pattern that simply had embossed pictures on them. What are your thoughts? Would you use them? Have you used them and found them to be worthy of replacing the store bought?

I'm fairly new and self taught at this knitting so this fact combined with the fact that I've been off my feet for over a month after breaking my kneecap and the surgery that followed is giving me alot of time to master this craft. LOL

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

Crocheted dishclothes:

With size F hook, chain 32 stitches

Row 1 -DC in 4th chain from hook and each chain across row = 32DC
Chain 3 times and turn.

Row 2 - in space between 2nd and 3rd DC - work 2 DC, *skip next space, 2 DC in next space, repeat from* across row, ending 1 DC in top of chain 3.
Chain 3 and turn

Row 3 - DC in space between 1st and 2nd DC *skip next space, 2 DC in next space, repeat from * across row.
Chain 3 and turn

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until desired length.

Last row DC across all as row 1.

finish.

Dishcloths are a great way to use up acrylic or cotton stash! And they're both machine washable. CRAFT has a cute pattern for crocheted scrubbies:

I've just made rectangular crochet dish cloths using a simple stitches like single or double crochet. I don't think I've seen embossed ones. I never thought of attaching anything to them.
