Post Please post your best prep ideas here.
I'll start off by sharing some things I learned a few years go! You can only collect so much TP..right What will you do when you run out? I bought some cheap face clothes, cut them in half and will use them for number 2 only. I have a diaper pail with a top that holds mothballs for the smell. So you half fill the diaper pail with bleach and water..I have the powdered bleach for that. When you are done, and the pail is half full you wash those half face clothes with a plunger so you can reuse them. And that is one of my preps.
So now what to do with those BM's lol You buy one of those baby toilets ..the whole one, and put plastic bags into them. When you are done you tie up the bag..make sure you put a pin prick in it as the gas will build up, and you will not be a happy camper. Put into a pail with a top, and get rid of daily..you can bury it, or find a place to put it ..where it won't cause a problem for others.
So..what do you think? Not exactly shared on prep forms a..lol

I was thinking about getting a diaper pail after you and I chatted this morning, but upon thinking...I have alot of buckets already..the kitty litter ones and I also have a nice big one..I can use one of the buckets for now to store my clothes and back up bathrooms supples....I have pool cholirine I can use some of that to sterilize water...only need a few grains of that for it to work

BTW...I bought some TP the other day and thought it looked smaller. Pulled some out of the stash and the new stuff was 1/2" shorter and much smaller around, urgh.

My BEST prep idea is to treat your prep pantry as a mini grocery store. Store what you use...use what you store. Then replace it once or twice a month. Saves gas, and also helps you to pinpoint items you will never use.

I have stocked up on these...I bought them about 4 years ago(good prices) and I opened one they have browned a bit...just saying...

I also use baby wipes to keep the bugs away...rinse baby wipes out with some water..replace to container and pour in some liquid bug off(shake)....you can use the wipes to wipe arms and legs and do not throw it away tuck it under your sun cap...keeps bugs away...I do this with kids every summer when they play baseball especially when you play outfielder

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

you can have the best in your pantry, everything medical under the sun, a full armory going for you BUT.................if all you have is in a single place...such as your basement.........what type of plan do you have IF>>>>>>earthquake collapses the structure, fire destroys your home, tornado flattens the place or the mod decides you no longer need what you have taken so much pride and care to prep and store and divides it among themselves while you watch?......................my best Prep Tip i can give is ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN B...PLAN C.....AND A PLAN D.........all your eggs in one basket is asking for failure.

back-up your back-up.

never have all of your eggs in one basket (as rabid was saying)...we don't expect many problems where we are, but the place could always catch fire, then where would I be? Make a plan to go somewhere else, everyone should know where to meet (like teaching your kids about fire excapes) and have preps in several different places.

The best prep plan I know is to obtain as much knowledge as possible. Don't just read about it or store it on your hard drive to read "later." Do it. Practice it. Become proficient.

^^^True. And since we started this thread by going back to the subject of "waste" disposal, and in another thread I already mentioned big white pages phone books, I'll mention a couple of other things. One- a 5 gallon plastic bucket. It works, and is just the right size for those plastic bags they give you at the store. I have a portable camping toilet (haven't used it yet), but I also bought 1000 of those plastic bags at Sam's club- for about $13 . And I kept the seat from our old toilet to use on a bucket if need be. Also, they actually make a ring-type lid to go on the buckets for just that purpose. And on a tangent to portable toilets- I like and use 2-ply toilet paper. But instead of buying expensive "camping" toilet paper, just buy 1-ply. It is the same thing. My 2 cents. 20 cents adjusted for inflation.

I'll weigh in on this one. Expensive camping tissue is a rip off. I lived for several years in campers and sailboats and for years I thought that I had to buy the high dollar stuff made exclusively for use in holding tanks. I discovered a simple test to determine if a TP brand was suitable for use in holding tank situations. Take five or six sheets of your favorite TP and put it in a sixteen ounce (more or less) jar and fill the jar with water. Wait for one minute and shake. If the TP dissolves into tiny pieces then it's suitable for holding tank use. I found out that there ain't a lot of difference in brands but the surprising thing was that some of the expensive camping paper failed the test.
