Post Pioneer Soup Mix in a Jar
Pioneer Soup Mix in a Jar

2 tbsp dried minced onion
2 tbsp dried parsley flakes
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp lemon pepper seasoning
2 tbsp (or two packets) dry beef bouillon
1/2 cup quick cook barley
1/2 cup dried split peas
1/2 cup regular rice (white or brown)
1/2 cup dry lentils
1/2 cup alphabet pasta, uncooked
1 cup vegetable rotini, uncooked

In a 1 quart jar with lid, layer barley, split peas, rice, lentils and both types of pasta. Press down as you add each layer.

In a small ziploc bag, combine minced onion, parsley, salt, lemon pepper seasoning and beef bouillon. Place ziploc bag of seasoning on top of pasta. Seal jar.

Attach the following recipe and instructions to the jar:

Pioneer Soup in a Jar
3 quarts water
2 stalks chopped celery,
2 sliced carrots
1 cup shredded cabbage
2 cups diced tomatoes

Open jar and remove seasoning. Next, remove pasta, setting aside for later. Then, in a stock pot, add 3 quarts of water, the remaining contents of jar, the seasoning mix, and the vegetables. Cover stock pot, and simmer for one hour or until vegetables are all tender. Add pasta during the final fifteen minutes of simmering.
