 May 2010
I started the thread this month..I was over at buckcreek and posted my preps in there for yesterday and today and have copied and pasted to here...how lazy can I get..lol
I had bought the used store out of canning jars, got those all washed up and filled with dried goods..now they need to be dated and pumped and sealed...washed out another 8-10 2 litre pop bottles for split peas and dried beans....
I found another tote of rice with bugs in it..that almost all my rice gone except the new stuff I bought just before the move and anything that I had previously put in 2 litre pop bottles...don,t know how I will replace all it( I have lost about 200lbs plus)..but no more zip locks bags for this girl..I had bought a batch of zip bags from the Rexall store and had found they had a flaw, I returned about 10 boxs but had already used a about hundred of them for preps..well they did not hold...lesson learned...
We are having another yard sale this saturday so I am going through the house with a fine tooth comb, and will put out all unnecessary items for some cash and on May 9th going to the big city for a prep run...yea I know its mothers day,but it also my sons 19th birthday so as a treat we are heading to the big city...

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

 Re: May 2010
Income tax refund came, we bought a grill! It has a side burner that cooks pancakes (one side is a griddle, turn it over and it cooks bacon!) and you can buy a rotisserie attachment. We've got a few 20 lb tanks of propane, I'm thinking we could use wood in it when that ruins out? Anyway, it's an alternative cooking method, which I consider a prep. DH loves it. He's finally met the grill of his dreams. We caught up the bills, now we're broke again, but that's OK. Since the bills are caught up, we can prep a little more next week.

 Re: May 2010
Kelee, You did great on the canning jars, so sorry you lost so much rice, hope there is a way you can rebuild your supply.
Herbal, Fruit trees all in is real good, you are keeping up on top of things.
tygerkittn, Congrats on the grill and the few tanks of propane, always good to have another alternative cooking source.
no prepping herre, yardwork, bookcase building, etc...

Kelee. Did you put that rice in the freezer for three days before packing it for long term storage?

 Re: May 2010
Yes ...I freeze ecerything that is dried....This was one of the totes that was under the beds in the apt,I did not get time to really look through them before we moved, so I am not sure if bugs were in there before or after the move.. For the amount of bugs that were in there,I would say they were there for awile, not sure....but to be safe from now on I am eighter putting preps in 2 litre pop bottles, or buying up all the used stores canning jars...

 Re: May 2010
Sounds like a good idea. Do you have any access to used food grade buckets. From a bakery or McDonalds. Somewhere like that?

 Re: May 2010
Not sure if it counts as prepping but I think so. I took another load over to DS's, along in this load 2 9ct toilet tissue and 13 bags of coffee, in addition to more of my things. Yes I took the quilt over lardel.

 Re: May 2010
All the buckets are spoken for by the locals who do all the fishing and hunting... I have been collecting empty kitty litter buckets,I know they are not food grade, but they are holding soaps, tooth paste, deoderants and such... I got all those cannings jar filled that I bought the other day...I have a whole bunch of small ones in the dishwasher and I will fill those with corn startch and bacon bits that I have around...I have real small canning jars will get some spices for those... and go figure I have a ton of space for preps now and no extra financies to get any...guess I better plant a big huge garden

 Re: May 2010
Nice one...is it a 10 thousand btu I went out of town yesterday, moe to celebrate mothers day and my sons 19th birthday then doing shopping, but while I was there I checked out prices and stock supplies... We don,t have a wally mart up here in goomerville so its nice to get out of town and look at things...I noticed that they did not have a big selection and the things that I needed pets foods and such, the shelves were almost emptied...not sure if they just had a sale on the stuff or they were waiting to order in lots instead of a bit at a time...

 Re: May 2010
I picked up a couple more cans of salmon. I scored some extra clothes & shoes for my youngest boy to grow into. Hubba also took the boys out shooting yesterday. He said their dexterity, aim & ability to handle the guns while shooting is improving dramatically.

 Re: May 2010
I went down to the bulk food store to pick up my 50lbs of white wheat $26 and 25lbs of pearlized barley at $20, bought enough bulk sure jel type stuff to make 4 batches of jam for $2.25.
After that we stopped at Casa Villa Wholesale store, we noticed it when we were driving out to the bulk food store. I bought Son some frozen pastas 99 cents a bag and we bought containers of dry mustard, sesame seeds, basil and rosemary for storage also found the SAF Dry Yeast there for $2.99 a 1 pound bag.
Next after dropping off supplies and kids I stopped at thrift store, found a queen size fitted sheet and top sheet, both flannel in perfect condition for $2.50 each, wish I found the matching pillow cases. Also found some 1955 cookbooks for 30 cents each.
Now home to put things away, wash and pack. Also finish up housework. Was nice to find the other wholesale store.
