Post Make a cheese press and some cheese
This is a really simple home made cheese press that works. I use 2 just like this here, all the time. it's a simple construction with 2 pieces of 1" thick 12" wide wood, 4 pieces of all thread and a few nuts and washers. You will also need a piece of something to use as a plunger to keep the weight applied on top of the cheese in the mold. I've used pvc pipe cut down to 12" tall, the plunger is 8" tall. I cut a piece of wood out to fit inside the pvc pipe that I made for the cheese mold and the plunger goes on top of the follower. I use bricks or what ever is handy to make the weight I need for pressing. You simply drill matching holes in the corners of both pieces, put your all thread in the holes, washers and nuts top an bottom of your base plate and nuts and washer for on top of your weight plate to help control wieght shift. Simple.

I made this caraway cheddar cheese using the home made press you see in this thread.Image

Well no, I must have missed the Backwoods Home issue with the cheese presses in it. I dont always have the cash for a subscription. I bought a commercial press, it was expensive. I wanted to make more cheese at a time and came up with this simple design so I could. I even tested my ideas on the purchased press before I made one for myself. It works, I use them all the timeImage
