Major 'Don't get it", Reviews Costco Preps package
Costco Will Sell You an Apocalyptic Year's Worth of Disgusting Food for $800 http://blacklistednews.com/Costco-Will- ... 5/Y/M.htmlEither our nation's obesity problem is just as bad as they say, or Costco knows something we don't, because the aircraft carrier-scaled big box store is now offering enough (horrifying) food to last you a year for a cool $800. The monstrous, 5,011 serving package, courtesy of food outfitter Shelf Reliance (hey, at least we'll have kept our senses of humor during doomsday!) claims their end days buffet contains "only top-of-the-line products," "developed with everyday menu planning in mind." Which makes sense, of course, because the only thing worse than knowing that the entire eastern seaboard has been leveled by nukes or a horde of flesh-feasting space titans is repetitive bunker fare—dehydrated fish skin AGAIN, mom? Possibly more disconcerting than the notion of a year underground eating food from Costco is the fact that the package isn't just marketed for emergencies, but for "long-term food storage supply." Meaning that someone, somewhere, thinks it's a rational idea to buy an $800 cargo crate including containing 84 gallon-sized cans, to just, y'know, save yourself a trip to the grocery store. Now, I am totally down with Costco's cheese platters, and pasta multi-packs, but. My God. So what else is included in this nightmarish sampler? Twelve cans of "Hard White Winter Wheat (44 servings per can)", one can of Freeze-Dried Mushroom Pieces (48 servings per can)", and dozens of cans of "TVP"—textured vegetable protein, which Shelf Reliance says "is consistent with real meat." Not included in the deal is a can of freeze dried cyanide for when you grow weary of mixing TVP bacon with elbow macaroni every week. I'm now reflecting on a year spent holed up in an abandoned mine, sleeping with a pistol under my pillow so the zombies don't get me, or a year spent staring at "2 Cans of Taco TVP (42 servings per can)," and having a hard time deciding which is more apocalyptic. Please tell me that isn't the entire contents list! This is by far the worst commercial "apocalypse food" stash I have ever seen, and there seems to be a long list of "easy" off the shelf answers to long term sustainment, but this is about MAYBE 200 dollars worth of food in #10 cans. Pathetic.
I could have made a better kit than this with a dozen 5 gallon pails, and some mylar, and a grain mill.
I will give costco and company this, TVP can be awesome, don't get me wrong, it ain't beef, but, when hungry, it tastes ok. When not in a survival situation though, it tastes like my butthole in july.
(I am just realizing this now that this thread is almost a month old!)

No Problem about it being month old..glad to see you weigh in on this...I don't remember seeing a month ago.. No Costco near me, so I would not be inclined to buy from them, I have to all my preps the ole fashion way..don't even have a wally mart near me(2 hours is the closest one)

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

Costco also has a great deal on a bucket that has mostly soups and pasta meals for about $75. It has 275 servings in it!

Actually Costco does offer credible preps packages as you can see by going to their website, and entering the search term '' shelf reliance.'' http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.as ... opnav=&s=1The jist of the page which was referenced in the original post is a smart a## web article on gizmodo.com, and I hope was tongue in cheek, but probably not, knowing the ignorance of the sheeple. From water storage containers, to long term storage of all kinds, even equipped bug out bags, and sprouting seeds, they pretty much cover the bases. So before jumping to conclusions, check costco's website, and use some imaginative searching, and you will find some interesting things. For me, using a whole #10 can of preps and storing the opened contents between uses is the real challenge. Either reclosable mylar bags to hold the remainder, or oxygen absorbers should do the trick.

Re: Major 'Don't get it", Reviews Costco Preps package
Without commenting specifically on the selections in the #10 cans, it is better in my case to have smaller cans and packages than the big cans. Depending on the specific item in the can, most of the time there will be leftovers from a #10 can. For instance, when you open the can of mushrooms, unless you are feeding a crowd of people, you won't finish it off at once. Then the leftovers will have to go in the fridge or the freezer. The same with the other cans. Soon your fridge and/or freezer would be full. Or else you will need to repackage much of the food. I do have SOME #10 cans of food, but mostly I have smaller packages and cans, with the exception of rice and beans. I have more rice than anything. My plan is to have enough other things to mix with the rice, like beans or canned veggies. And we eat our rice and beans, and rice with veggies all the time- we won't change our diet because we are doing it already. The biggest change I foresee is in the event of the electrical grid going down, we may have to switch to cooking with my homemade solar oven, or propane, or over a wood fire or charcoal grill.

Re: Major 'Don't get it", Reviews Costco Preps package
My sweetie and I living off grid use a little photo-voltaic energy to run a food-saver after we open a #10 can of storage food. We use what we need and then package the remenants in multiple serving sized bags that don't need refrigeration. Granted, eating up the contents of a #10 can generally get a bit boring.
