Post July 2010
Went grocery shopping & found CLif bars 10/$10, so I picked up some of those & got a raincheck for the brownie ones they were out of. I also ordered a couple of cases of Clif bars from Amazon last night. I was bummed after ordering them when I saw them in the grocery, but they didn't even have a shelf tag for the banana nut, so I ended up relieved. I also ordered a case of some beef sticks from Amazon. Good thing I ordered when I did, because the price more than doubled this morning. I bought an extra canister of peanuts. All of the above are for our car/BO kits.

Today I'm canning pintos. I've got my second canner load going, and it looks as if all 10 of the first load sealed, YAY!

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

I picked up my half cow today (yay). I had to clean out the freezers. Chickens were made happy, and I'll be doing a lot of baking & canning this week. Tomorrow we're going out of town, so I can't do anything then, but I'll report back with what I get from the "big city."

got another 8-9 quarts of strawberries. Lucky daughter got to go out and pick them in the scorching heat and humidity. The raspberries have slowly started ripening...gotthe first cup or so, which quickly got eaten!
No other prepping done, we are very sick with a nasty summer cold.

Thanks, MD. One is about 1/2 block away, at a farm store. That would be excellent.

Post Re: July 2010
Answered a question my wife asked me in a way to point her more to the logic of prepping.

She STILL thinks that having MONEY is the best (and basically the only) prep.
She just does not yet get the idea that Food will get thru times of money better than money will get you thru times of no food.

Understand, I believe a proper prepper has a stash of cash. (How's that for alliteration?)

I also believe you should have 1 months supply of non-cook food on hand. (Yes, it can be heated and it does taste better and it does sooth the soul better heated BUT there are times when you just can't heat food).

I also believe you should have 3 different ways to purify water on hand.

I also believe you should have a minimum of 1 weeks supply of water on hand (which included water for spit baths and the occasional flush).

You get the idea.
