Post I,m going to can me some water
I have hundreds of canning jars filled with dried foods..

Earlier members know that last year I was living in an apt and space was tight(me and my 3 kids in a 2 bedrrom apt) and we shared our rooms with all the preps, so now I have a "what I call a nice big house" and since I own it, I can do what I please...

I have been on a second hand store cruisade to stock pile as many canning jars as I can,I then wash them, air dry them and fill them with dried goods to preserve space...not only that I would feel safe in the fact that I have all of these canning jars for SHTF( yes I have prepped lids)

So I don't alot of canning canning right now as I have just built my raised beds and with the pool in the back yard this summer(which thank you babyfawn, this summer our beaches are closed right now because of ecoli and city is not paying to re-open them this year)..

So anyways, I have also collected as the kids and I have been drinking it are 2 litre pop bottles..

My rush to get my dried goods eighter canned or bottled, was because of limited space and lack of proper long term prep supplies up here..I had zip locked sandwich bagged all of my dried preps..and what happened was I was buying a good quality zip bag,but one of our stores put some on sale and I decided to get some..well they were the new bio-degratible which is not good for long term preps..and once the dried goods were zipped they were stored inside totes..well to my surprise when we moved to the house numerous of these bags had ripped and they had weavel bugs...(yes I did freeze all dried goods before storing)

So I went through and canned and bottled as much as I could(almost all is done now except for a half tote of sugar)...Now I must have couple of hundred canning jars around the house and I have 30 empty 2 litres...and I do want to start some canning(I have 2 crab apple tree,s in the backyard).

So while I am doing some canning if I should come across a time when I don't have enough jars to fill the pot I will can up some water...

If any of you have canning water recipes please post...

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

I store water in Cornelius Kegs or Corny Kegs.
Those stainless steel kegs you see soda concentrate at restaurants and such.
5 gal with handles and a hole big enough to clean out. Most come with quick release fittings (2 types so watch that).
I rigged up a manual air pump to pressurize them. Liquid comes out a drop tube, no lifting.

You can get used ones for about $20 each on E-bay.

I even had one freeze solid (left in garage - stupid), it's warped and doesn't seal perfectly but it still works.

Kelee since you don't know how long you are going to store your water for. Start out with sterile jars. Boil the water for ten minutes then it will also be starting out sterile. I know a lot say one minute. I tend to go by the old standard to be sure. Then put it hot into your sterile jar and process with what ever you are processing. I would not do it for any less then ten minutes at ten pounds pressure.

I know it sounds like overkill. But hey think of the convenience of opening a jar of water and knowing it is sterile. It should last for years in a sealed mason jar. As long as the seal is good.
