 I got me some chicks!
Two-legged kind, too. posting.php?mode=post&f=33#40 years ago, I would have been referring to a different kind Neighbor delivered 25 +1 Barred Rocks yesterday The +1 came when there was one poor little bird that had hardly no feathers and was getting picked on. My (almost 15 yo) daughter is excited. She's like a Mother Hen but once they get out of the cuteness that may change. My wife is way less than thrilled. She is an anti-prepper. I picked Barred Rocks because eggs aren't as important as meat to me but the Rocks are good enough layers to more than care for our needs. Have a little bit of work to do on the coop. It hasn't been used in 50 or so years but in surprising good shape. The peeps are in the basement now

Re: I got me some chicks!
Those *might* be white rocks. Barred rocks are black as babies, with a white dot on the head. The little chipmunk striped ones look like they could be easter eggers.

Re: I got me some chicks!
They're starting to feather out a little on the wing tips. Some are starting to show a little resemblance to barred rocks based on very preliminary look Neighbor told he me could give me barred rock If he sold me other than that, I'll get mine mail order next year

Re: I got me some chicks!
If they're white rocks, they will still be dual purpose & size out like the Barred Rocks. But those are definitely not Barred Rocks.

Re: I got me some chicks!
I think I have some different ones. There seem to be some barred rocks but they're definitely not all barred rocks.

Re: I got me some chicks!
Yahooooo! the banty hen that was setting hatched out at least 8 chicks. I got a look at them when she was at the feed pan yesterday morning. I got 3 more hens setting plus 4 ducks...... Just can't beat mother natures incubator.
