Post Davos summit ends amid unease with world economy
Crippling European debt crisis dominates global forum

The world's foremost gathering of business and political leaders wrapped up their meetings Sunday in Davos, Switzerland amid fears that economic turmoil in Europe could spread around the world.

Europe's crippling debt crisis dominated the 42nd annual World Economic Forum which was attended by some 2,500 VIPs including Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

On Thursday, Harper wagged a finger at his European counterparts, urging them to institute hard reforms and accusing them of being complacent about their wealth.

He said Western nations have to decide to pursue economic growth, or risk declining fortunes.

When the forum opened, its normally upbeat founder Klaus Schwab said he remained a deep believer in free markets but also said that capitalism needs to be fixed "to serve society."

Schwab welcomed critics' ideas of how to fix it — including from the Occupy protesters who had set up a protest camp of igloos in front of Davos city hall.
