 Can you live without plastic?
Canada just released a study and found alot of BPA in our systems, so I am going to take kids and I off plastic products...we will finish what we have in the house..but they are even saying the our canned foods contain BPA..I have seen the newer cans they have a plastic lining inside of them now..but since I am working on 2007 canned foods, they don't have the plastic in them...
I know that many companies have switched to plasctic instead of glass for their products.so this should be fun
First thing I will start with will be our pop..we consume alot of it, I can,t do cans the aluminum from them bothers my teeth, and it has been years since I have seen pop in glass bottles...
Next would be our juice contauners, I will have to find a glass juice container or I can use my perks camping pots they are tin and I have one ceramic one...
eliminate items like individual juice boxs and bottles water(keep the 8 cases I have for emergencies)
oh my potaotoe chips and snacks come in plastic bags...
most of the preps that I bring in,in plastic especially the dried stuff, gets froozen, then put in glass canning jars, but I do have alot of preps in plastic 2 litre pop bottles...
wiw this is going to be undertaking, but I am willing to try and see what happens..

I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it coming.” I think that it’s already here, it’s just a matter of perspective. From one perspective, our frog friends are telling us that we should be grateful that the “spa” is hot and luxurious. From the cook’s perspective… another 10 minutes and we’ll be dinner.

many chips are now coming in mylar bags. if you can get "Sunchips" the bags are biodegradable even. Plastics are a hard thing to get out of your buying cycle. Big plastics, you can recycle that...totes and such. but so much comes wrapped in plastic these days.

Re: Can you live without plastic?
Not so fast there, Boss ! I am not an expert in the field, (but how often are the experts WRONG and have to reverse themselves ?) but I would not think that enough plastic could get into your diet just from contact between food and a plastic container. A more likely culprit is one which is just now starting to be investigated, and that is fumes from plastic containers, plates, etc. used when heating or cooking food in microwave ovens. Do you heat up food on some kind of plate (even labelled "microwave safe") made of a plastic material ? Since you can't use metal plates in a microwave, any plate besides a paper plate will likely have plastic in it. Plastic is made of oil and other chemicals. I would be far more suspicious of this than apsorption of plastic through food-to-container contact.
If you are concerned about the containers your food comes in, you can look up the content of the various plastic containers from the recycle symbol molded into them (if they do this in Canada). This statement about BPa is most likely true, but the reason for it has not been established yet. Before giving up your beloved Pepsi, I would investigate further. I will certainly do so, but may not get to it for a while. Good luck, Kelee.

I disagree, war tide! Kelee has to give up Pepsi immediately, and send the money she saves to the government!

Re: Can you live without plastic?
We gave up buying pop years ago. It's expensive and mostly it drives you to crave ever sweeter things. I do still keep some around - just can't drink whiskey without it. We switched to frozen juices - real juice, not that flavoured sugar water. After a while that gets too sweet so you double dilute it and you stop drooling over the cookie aisle at the supermarket. Put the juice is stainless steel water bottles for the kids.
Clear glass plates or Corning Ware for the microwave.
